The trouble with Lord Ashcroft's letter is, first and foremost, his mistreatment of the facts. His flood of aid is nothing of the sort, the typical tax payer sees very little of their tax bill go to aid, and the per capita flows into developing countries are mostly very small. Also, the best available evidence suggests that, far from impede development, good aid actually helps. I provide more detail, calculations and references here: http://devpolicy.org/lord-ashcrofts-taps/

Lord Ashcroft should not brag about being attached to evidence when he is not.

"Don’t argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience".

Perfect - best thing I read on the internet today.

It is like finding the slope of a mountain. During your climb, the slope is positive; At the top, the slope is zero; During your decent, the slope is negative.

So let me get this straight, whenever you go mountain climbing, should you ever at any point of your journey start heading down rather than up, you assume that you've reached the summit?

Blimey.
