I just stumbled into a HUD program called the Dollar Home Initiative where local governments can purchase a foreclosed single family FHA/HUD-owned home for $1 if it’s been on the market for over six months. Local governments may partner with local nonprofit home ownership organizations to resell the homes to low- and moderate-income residents.

Funny thing. ACORN used to have a nonprofit home ownership organization called “ACORN Housing Corp.” Out of curiosity I typed in www.acornhousing.org and landed instead at https://secure.ahcoa.org. Is ACORN Housing still in business, but with the new name of “Affordable Housing Centers for America?”
