Oh, but you overlooked the most popular one! Mindful eating of other sentient beings. Although I suppose that one's been written to death already. (Pun unintended.)
Whoa is right. Thanks for introducing me to a very cool blog!
Oh dear, there goes my respect for Penn & Teller. I really thought those guys were intelligent enough not to fall into nearly every mental pitfall of the average meat-eater. Anyone up for a game of Defensive Omnivore Bingo?
Thank you. The world needs this reminder on a daily basis. Can we get this made into televised public service announcement too?
Thank you, Lynn! I'm now following you on Twitter as well. =)
Thank you, Angie! As vegans, we have so many opportunities to be angry toward those who harm helpless animals. I definitely went through a phase of being overwhelmed by how much cruelty there was in the world, and unsure how to even interact with meat-eaters without resentment. (Yes, the stereotypical "angry vegan.") Ironically, this was only months after I myself gave up eating flesh.
Um, regarding that last quote, when compared to legal items like cigarettes, alcohol, and prescription drugs, pot IS okay, and people should go ahead and use it. (And before you ask, no, I'm not a smoker of anything.)
I am vegan, and I almost never buy "made for vegans" food items. In other words, we buy fruits, vegetables, nuts and whole grains. And no, we can't afford to buy organic. Being vegan, unprocessed food eaters does save us a LOT on groceries, but even so, unless an organic item is comparable in price, we can rarely afford the splurge. And short of giving up our phones or internet, there's not a corner we could cut.
Today while doing some vegan outreach at a festival, a couple came by with a gorgeous, friendly 4 year old pit bull. They told us he was vegan! He was in great health; trim, happy, and energetic. Dogs, like humans, are omnivores, so they certainly can be vegan, and I've heard they usually thrive on a vegan diet.
I have two cats. One will eat some of our food along with his own, the other is very picky. When I get them some vegan cat food, I'll let you know how they like it!
