I guess the idea was that they needed enough background characters that it wouldn't be obvious which ones were going to be zombie food! Now that they've thinned out the group a little hopefully the remaining characters can be developed some more.

Loccus - Good point re: standing around looking at the zombies trying to break through. I guess the zombies would have kept trying whether they could see their dinner or not but I don't know I'd want to give them any encouragement!

dddd - I can see where you are coming from. Glenn certainly is a great character and destined to become a show favorite. I just wonder why the show is so averse to playing the cliffhanger when they go to the trouble of setting it up. Still, it was a memorable image!

WeirdArchives - there was definitely some press along those lines but I believe AMC said that those reports were actually inaccurate and that a second series has yet to be commissioned. I certainly wouldn't be surprised though to see an announcement soon about a second season (and perhaps a third), particularly if week 2 gets similar ratings.

Thanks for the comment - the make-up and props people did a fantastic job bring those zombies (back) to life. I didn't get to see the episode until this morning but I'm sure I'll be dreaming of those zombies too. Particularly as I live in Atlanta and know Marietta Street (where the tank scene took place) all too well...
