Although Rachel Ray works fine as a first Trollope read, I've heard that The Warden is better. I think I'll have to read that one (and its follow-up novels) soon.

Thank you for stopping by! I really did enjoy Rachel Ray very much, but I do see that it is one of Trollope's lesser novels for a reason. Nevertheless, the charm and wit of his characterizations makes me want to read more.

I hope you enjoy Rachel Ray if you get a chance to read it.

With this book (and it sounds like with most Trollope), I kept thinking about who I would cast in each role if I were making a film version of the novel. (I'm imagining Shirley Henderson as Mrs. Prime.)

Thanks. Fadiman is a great read--quirky and opinionated, down to earth and pretentious, charming and witty. At the very moment you've had it with his pretentiousness, he turns around, makes you laugh, and reminds you that he has only written his book because of his love of and enjoyment of literature. I highly recommend it.

You've got a point about the Bible. Thinking about it as philosophy is a nice way to think about it. But I'm worried that no matter how I talk about it, I'll be stepping on a lot of toes and offending almost everyone. I certainly don't want to do that.

I love the idea of going from what we know to what is most foreign. I'll meet you in the middle!

I can imagine! When I started putting things together, I had much more limited choices. But as I get more and more aware of what I am doing, I get more and more excited about each little section.

I'll be starting Gilgamesh on the 5th and writing about it through the 17th. (My plan right now is a M-W-F schedule.) Sounds like the Chris of ProSe blog might join us as well! I'll try to connect with y'all by email soon to see what we want to do. OK?

I keep telling myself that if I totally freak out at the order, I'll let go of it. The project will still be a success. So glad my lists might be helpful for you. Much is missing--and they are too long at the same time--but I figure they'll be my starting point.

If I am remembering correctly, she and Jem and Dill act out Burroughs stories. Very cute!

I've been eying Penelope's Daughter but haven't read it yet. How exciting to have you stop by! And I don't know Margaret George's novel at all. Off to look it up right now. Thanks!
