Jasmine, thank you so much for making such excellent points! I'd forgotten about the training wands, and you're so right about the snake belt being a different type of magic than Credence's.

About Modesty's biological parents -- I think it also possible that they were scared by Modesty's magic and gave her to Mary Lou hoping she would cure her or something.

Thanks so much for commenting, Engelen! I keep going back and forth on this one, to be honest. Sometimes I agree totally with what you said, that it was Credence. I think it is Mary Lou's focus on Modesty when the belt flies away, and how Rowling says in the script that Modesty looked back at her defiantly, that makes me still lean toward Modesty protecting her brother.

"Modesty stares defiantly directly back at her. In the background we see Credence crouched down, hugging his knees and shaking." (from the script book)

But it's truly hard to know for sure. I see both possibilities.

I loved the film too, Farida. And I totally agree with your "gorgeous" description.

As for Modesty...would love to see what you think of today's and tomorrow's post as I'm continuing with her. :-)
