Ohhh. I'm sorry. I misunderstood your question. I don't think Twitter's concept lends itself to another approach. It's like a stadium full of people barking out quips to try to get everyone else's attention. Naturally, it becomes self-serving and self-promoting - that is, if you want to be heard. But that's also true of Facebook and blogging itself. Thanks for challenging me.
I just dropped a hand-written thank you note in the mail. It felt revolutionary to send it off to some nice people who had me over for dinner. So there are a couple of examples, I suppose.
I wish I didn't hate Twitter so that I could rejoice with you, but I do hate it. I did it for two weeks, and I felt like I was trying out different smiles in the mirror the whole time.
