As a Calvinist that serves as an associate pastor in a Reformed church, I tried eliminating potluck meals for Pot-Providence meals. The response was more than slightly underwhelming to say the least. No matter how much Calvinists love providence, you don't mess with a potluck.
While this may be the weakest sauce of an answer on the market... this is the primary question in my mind right now. As a pastor facing a potential downsizing, I've had to begin asking myself if gospel ministry is where God wants me. The answer I continuously return to is yes, but I'm praying to accept that it might not look like what I expect it to look like.
Why Johnny Can't Preach by T. David Gordon
This video reminded me of when I heard N.T. Wright speak at a small bookstore signing at Gordon College... He was asked a question and he immediately looked to the table next to him covered with various books he had written as he began to answer. He was looking for *the* book where he had answered the question specifically, though after about 45 seconds (and explaining what he was doing) he told the audience that he hadn't yet written that book. It was as though the Divine Genie (to use Gilbert's term; we call him God) had already entrusted the manuscript to Wright though he hadn't yet been able to transcribe it yet. That was a great encounter with the Genius of God.
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in chocolate that vanilla may abound? By no means!
Big Dawg Glen's enthusiasm in video 1 couldn't be matched... I'm thinking he was asleep. Nothing like that moment when your wife's water breaks. Nothing.
