I know I read this years ago but can't remember. As you know, I did NOT like Walden on this reread.

As for Civil Disobedience, I remember Ghandi based his peaceful protests on the concept, so it worked for him in his cause! I really liked reading his autobiography, but I can't remember many of the details.

Fascinated by the Cain-Abel essay you mention. Have you read EAst of Eden? Lots of Cain and Abel in that too.

I really need to read this. I want to read some HUMOROUS Steinbeck, all I've read I've loved, but it's heartbreaking.

I have my entire home library cataloged for the most part on LT but am getting annoyed by the no smartphone app yet. Can't believe they haven't gotten there yet.

I was not crazy about this novel, but I think next time I'll have to find an annotated edition. I read it at a bad time.

I did read it as a kid and I bawled my eyes out. I didn't notice the crying boy or the silly sisters -- at least it didn't bother me. I wonder what my reaction would be upon reread as an adult!

The disclaimer about violence against the raccoons: for some reason it makes me laugh. I know, not really funny.

I did not watch the game. This would have been a perfect alternative! and I can totally relate to the husband distracting me with shows. Same thing happens to me and derails me from my reading-a-thon.

Yes! I completely relate. I'd much rather email, IM, Twitter or anything. I completely relate. Yet, one of my jobs in college was as a clerk in an office, where I answered the phone. It was not easy, but at least I had a data entry form I knew i had to fill out. Just fill it out and all is okay.

I am currently reading HALF OF A YELLOW SUN by Adichie, an incredible novel that takes place during the Nigerian Civil War. I don't know much about 1960s Nigeria but Adichie's writing is perfect: she draws characters, setting, and context that is so clear it feel completely familiar. I think the best testimony that it's a good book is that it's after midnight for me here in Chicagoland, and yet I'm still turning pages (well, I'll be back to it as soon as I'm done with this mini-challenged! lol)
