I'm an columnist for an entertainment news portal site that focuses a fair amount of attention on geek culture, so I would say that I kind of have to be active for the sake of my writing career. Even if I wasn't though I would be active in other ways.

What I've found is that you have to pick and choose which geektivities you are going to be active in and let some go. If I was an active participant in discussions around all my fandoms, I would pretty much never do anything else. And then die from lack of food and eating. So some I am active about (Doctor Who, TT roleplaying, comics, film, music) and some I just enjoy on my own.

Neil Gaiman. He is (obviously) good and he would clearly not directly fight Godzilla, but rather dazzle him with a cunning plan that would involve something absolutely brilliant.

Also, Wreck-It Doctor and Amy von Schweetz may be my favorite of your Fancy Sketches ever. Or possibly any drawing of all time.

Idris Elba as Heimdall is a definite contender as the answer for that question. MCD as Kingpin was definitely a good one too.

That is a great description of the show, actually.

Well, I kicked in $100 so you can probably guess my thoughts on the Kickstarter. Whedon has already said that everyone's too busy right now for a Firefly Kickstarter but perhaps in a couple years. (SOURCE: http://www.411mania.com/movies/news/276963)

I think this is a perfectly acceptable thing. I also have many vile words for people who are trying to make people feel guilty about donating to it (there is a sizable backlash right now), but that's not for here.

I would argue one exception. Clearly, Jennifer Lawrence can take a joke and is great when she's in on them, too.

Yeah, it was pretty brutal. It was the Award Season Hosting equivalent of watching a boxing match from two former world champions...who are now in their late 90s.

Joel, you're thinking of two years ago where the hosts had contempt for each other (Hathaway and Franco). Last year was the equally train-wrecky "let's trot Billy Crystal out of storage for another hosting gig and hope no one notices he hasn't caught up with the times."
