Well, they were both members of the Inklings, so you were right to confuse them. Not to worry. Oddly, Tolkien thought Lewis went terribly wrong with That Hideous Strength :-)

This man (and everyone else too) needs to read C.S.Lewis's That Hideous Strength. It highlights how one can get sucked into the "in" political crowd and lose one's soul.

Here's a different spin on this. The progressives/Obama admin is beginning to put the screws to the Dems who just came along for the ride. It may not have been the loose right wing "nut" (of which I'm one..so note the sarcasm) this guy was afraid of, but one of his own. Just saying...

No worries. Most of us can and probably did go look for it. But if anyone missed it, here's the link: http://biggovernment.com/asnyder/2010/05/22/whitt...

I read the book years ago and apparently fell into the same trap as WFB. However, that was long ago and far away. I am coming to this now with little memory of what I thought before, but now when I read the elided sentence I read the story of how insidious programs like the New Deal can be. Through somewhat deliberate action such programs permeate the air we breathe until we believe that their manifestations are simply "what is." The sentence in question sounds more like the admission of an epiphany and an acknowledgment of having been duped than it does an apology for a lack of knowledge. Guess I'll need to reread after all these years.

Add Shute's "On the Beach" to the list

Most of my life I've had almost nothing but post apocalyptic dreams. They stopped a few years ago, much to my relief. Then last Saturday I had a steady stream of 8 different pre-apocalyptic dreams one right after the other. Ever since I keep feeling like I'm living in a scene from "On the Beach." Next you'll find me under my desk in a fetal position.

Scary stuff.

actually they've been trying for a few years now and, yes, all the press I've seen on it was that it was to be "closer to the source" and more to the left.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0402344/

Or, with every regulation we invite more unseen new evils than the regulation was meant to remove. Not as pithy, but probably closer to the truth

I'm employed by the State of NJ and am forced to pay negotiating fees to a union (NOT njea). More than a year ago (under the Dem Gov) our union asked us to strike for a wage increase. We voted the strike down. Our wages have been frozen now for nearly three years, we are paying for our own healthcare. We lost 100 people to layoffs last month and have been told to expect more every month throughout the summer.

Most of the other state workers have no love for the teachers' unions. For my part, I have written to Christie in support, attended the teaparty in April in Trenton and would much rather have a good job in a robust private sector than be forced to pay a union in order to work for the state. Let's hope Christie gets the economy back on track here. And then all we need to worry about is the rest of the nation and the western world.

No wonder I'm having apocalyptic dreams nearly every night lately :-)
