I thought I'd pop over from my Reader to comment because I've been bad about that lately. :D
I'm very happy to hear you're doing better this year. It's great that you are being kind to yourself. <3 I get the winter SADs pretty badly even here where there is a freaking beach. February is the worst month ever.

I related to this post more than almost any other Stratejoy post ever. Go you for embracing these goals and knowing that you are so important to the Universe. You are. Not sure what else to say other than, I'm cheering you on so madcore right now and sending you so much Internet love.

Wonderful! I watch a lot of TV, too, or did. And I've been inspired over the years by a number of wonderful female (but mostly, male) characters.
I could go and on, but I'll just mention two. Claire Fisher, from Six Feet Under (my favorite television show in the history of the world), is one of my favorite female characters. I grew up and went through high school and college with her and she grew into such a remarkable woman (but was far from perfect). I know some people hate Sex and the City, but Miranda is probably a female character with whom I will always find inspiration. Her values aligned with mine in many ways and it was good for me to see a strong, career-driven female in a TV show who eventually found love and balance in her life (but also made sacrifices and missed out on things because her career was so important to her). It was good to see that when I was in high school/college because so many girls wanted to settle down and get married by 22 and I was not like them.
Great post. :)

A fellow grad student (over at http://catehuston.com/blog) reminded me that in grad school we have to remind ourselves that accomplishing 65% of impossible things is more important than accomplishing 100% of possible things. :) Maybe impossible isn't the right word, but accomplishing 65% of what most people never even attempt is a big deal! Here's the thing: You DID succeed because you chose this path knowing it would be tough, but also knowing it is what you want to do. Failure is part of the learning process even though is really hurts. You know this is the most fulfilling path, even if it is hard. You're in grad school. Say that aloud if you have to. Grad.freaking.school. Something like only 9% of the US population have master's, professional or doctorate degrees. So you're one step closer to being in that 9%. You'll rock it, babe. You will. (Also, I'm saying these things to remind myself because I get bogged down in the negative aspects of school too often.)

This is wonderful. I think I might set up a little wipe off board and write down three things I've grateful for every morning. I tend to get bogged down in stress and anxiety because I'm in grad school and work two jobs. I forget that I'm SO blessed and have many more things to be grateful for than things to worry about or be afraid of.

Also, I've been following along all season and it's been nice getting to know you here. :)

Truth truth truth and more truth. :) As someone who relates most to Eastern spiritual practices/beliefs, I definitely relate to many of the things you said. I think the first time I questioned Christianity was when I was 13 and I've been reading about every world religion/spiritual practice since trying to understand myself a little better. Without my family's openness to freedom of expression and thought, I don't know if I'd be where I am today. Thanks for sharing this. :D As humans, we seek out ways to find meaning in life so we can assign meaning to our death, so I think issues of spirituality and faith should be explored over one's lifetime. I am happy you continue to explore these things in yourself and speak openly about it because I know it must make others feel confident in their own explorations. :)
