I have read at least 40 of these, some several times. I rarely keep fiction--I give it away to make room for the non-fiction books I treasure. I am an old, "white" male, although I fail to see what "whiteness" has to do with book selection--or maleness, for that matter. Will you make a list for people of different colors and for both sexes? Of course you failed to include books by other authors which commenters here have noted: Carlos Castaneda, Robert Pirsig, Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, Colin Wilson, Nick Tosches, Trevanian, George Orwell, Joyce Carol Oates, Peter Matthiessen, David Lodge, Nikos Kazantzakis, Aldous Huxley, Khaled Hosseini, John Fowles, Ken Follett, Joseph Conrad...

My point is that she can afford to buy contraception, of either or both kinds, without having the rest of us pay for it. I have no religious scruples regarding contraception.

You can get 48 condoms at Costco for $9.99 + tax, and generic birth control pills for $22 per month. I checked on this yesterday while shopping there. I think basic membership in Costco is $25 per year.

I am not formally religious, do not belong to any organization, and am as outraged as others here are. I see, however, that BHO has finally overreached am and glad for this. More power to all the churches whose members and leaders may finally, for those who have not already discerned it, seen the totalitarian nature of our current president's intentions and that of his supporters, both the mindful and the mindless (the latter to mean those 'in love' with him for any number of ephemeral reasons). It's time to subordinate the self-proclaimed "intellectuals" who know what's good for us: http://pavellas.com/2009/02/11/what-is-an-intelle...

How many political appointees would emulate my father when he was on the Planning Commission of San Mateo County, CA? He brought a bag lunch to all luncheon meetings which were held at restaurants, with the taxapyers paying the restaurant tab.

"barry will do and say anything to get re elected" Enchanted one, surely you must know this is true of every career politician. We need to find and elect people like this great and humble man who just died: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970204...

"first-ever national action plan on women, peace, and security."
I always like ACTION plans more than mere plans or, as may be inferred, INaction plans. I want to know how my elected servants (I choose not to be "governed") will quickly, with demonstrable ACTION, increase peace and security for, by and with women. Once we get that done, we can start on the men.
