thank you for taking the time to look, Amber! I appreciate that. I am glad you think the white is ok, because I do really like that photo! I never thought about the inverse aspect. I am going to go take the bamboo one down now and reshoot that little owl pendant :-)

thanks again!

I have a photo up on etsy now that i think doesn't match my brand:

I was imitating the elegant all-white and gray shots that so many jewelry makers do so well. I love the photo. But it sticks out on my page like a sore thumb, i think, because it doesn't match the high-contrast, rich color, organic washi paper feel of most of my photos.

I guess I better re-do it (and my owl pendant photo that dates from when I was trying out bamboo as a backdrop.. .http://www.etsy.com/listing/54971192/owl-pendant-on-brass). What do you think?

Thanks for pushing me to get on this!

this is great. I've tried hard to incorporate "washi paper" "rich colors" and "Japanese" in all the images I use, but there's so much more I could do! It's a constant learning process! This really helps.

Thank you for posting this! I am on a mission to get paper recognized as one of the best art and jewelry mediums around, especially in its recycled forms! Treated right, it is as durable as anything out there.

Please forgive a blatant plug, but I would love for folks reading this to see the recycled paper jewelry I've been creating in Eugene, Oregon, inspired by our very large and active re-use movement: http://www.etsy.com/listing/50467163/sweetlife-re... http://www.etsy.com/listing/53857485/blueearth-pe... http://www.etsy.com/listing/51012647/redcosmos-sp...

This is great. I have one comment though. Overall, over the past year or two, the standard of photo quality on Etsy has gone from good to 'virtually professional.' I don't think the problem nowadays is very often the carpet or the couch.... it's the excellent photograph that isn't quite Simple Living or Martha Stewart or Sundance quality. It strikes me that very little in Etsy Finds or the front page looks much like it was really done by an indie maker anymore... I'm not saying we shouldn't all take excellent photos---I've worked really hard to get the skills as well as a 'signature look' that reflects the Japanese handmade paper aesthetic I use in my jewelry, and am trying to improve all the time (check it out at http://paperdemonjewelry.etsy.com. Comment VERY welcome!). But sometimes it can feel a bit discouraging that the standard doesn't really look all that indie anymore.
