Sorta looks like old Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty during the 1960s didn't turn out very well. He assured us that all these social programs would eliminate poverty within 15 years. After 40 years and TRILLIONS of dollars in welfare programs, there are far more people drawing government handouts today than before Johnson opened the money spigots. Democrats still haven't figured out what doesn't work.
There's no mystery here. Kids who work hard and are successful have always been a target of bullies. It was true fifty years ago for me and it's just as true today. Asian culture especially prides itself on academic excellence so of course those children are a prime target for the cretins.
If Hoyer wants to argue for freezing military wages as part of a government-wide belt tightening, that's a valid argument. But to try and compare military pay to federal civil service pay is a waste of everybody's time. Like some others here, I was career military and I was federal civil service for a few years after that. The two may sometimes work together, but they are definitely not the same animal.
Obama's "Sputnik moment" comment just affirms what many of us have always known: He's way out of his league and has neither the depth nor the breadth of experience to be president.
