Spoken with true white privilege, Dani. I also grew up on the low end of the economic spectrum, am female, a single mother, don't vacation, and work my ass off. But let me tell you, I am FULLY aware of my white privilege. Maybe it's because I live in the south. Perhaps it's because I have spent years in human services/social work. Whatever the reason, I can't deny the fact that being white affords me a smoother path than a person of color. Cultural appropriation and white privilege are alive and well and need to be called out and recognized by american society as a whole in order to be addressed. Blaming affirmative action is a cop out when one fails to realize their own shortcomings which have led them to their unsatisfactory state.

Bend your knees. Your teacher isn't big on 'letting' you? I'm sure your teacher is wonderful, but I'd get a second opinion on that.

I always wonder what brings someone who would site a comment like this to this site. But it's probably a good thing in the hope that you pick something up somewhere on here that might tone down the gratuitous snark.

Working with children is like hitting the fast-forward button in spiritual evolution. Off the top of my head, I can think of about 20 things that this situation is trying to teach. You can potentially learn more from this kid than your yoga instructor, depending on what exactly you are seeking to gain on the mat...

except this one? Okay, I'll try again - this will be the THIRD time I have tried to post a comment. My others were much nicer, but I am busy now. Check out Ani Phyo. Her cookbooks are great for staring out raw. You'll never feel hungry or bored with the right resources. Good luck!
