A very good reminder and a must for me to remember to do!

Like you said, it really depends on where you live and what type of lifestyle you want to have. Where I live, rent each month is too much compared with how much I'm paying for my own home. I pay $882 (mortgage, insurance, taxes) every month for my 1800 sq. ft., 4 bedroom home. For us it works, especially when I could pay that same amount or more for rent on a smaller place. Others may be more concerned with being able to move whenever they want or not having to deal with things when they break, which is fine for them. Yes, sometimes things break, but it doesn't happen every day or even every month. Eventually I'll pay off my mortgage (hopefully sooner rather than later) then I'll only have to pay insurance and taxes, which is much less than rent! At the same time I understand why some people want to rent and hope to have a few renters in the future when I'm able to buy some rental properties!

Firstly, this kid is an idiot for not taking that job, but I can't blame him. Not because I think it was a bad job. Because his parents taught him wrong...they forgot to teach him:

1) to be responsible for himself
2) that something is better than nothing
3) hard work gets you where you want to go
4) to live within your means (your means...not your parents means)

I worked for 18 years (since I was 14) before staying home with my kids and going back to college. For me, even with the time off, I'll have enough work experience to get a higher paying job, though even I don't expect it since I'll be starting off in a new field. A new graduate with minimal, if any, job experience should be taught by their parents that they will be starting from the bottom in terms of jobs, income, housing, merchandise, etc. We didn't start out in this lifestyle...we earned it, worked for it. They only get it as long as they are children, then it's time to make their own lifestyle by earning it!

Sometimes the best thing a parent can do is cut their children loose and tell them they are on their own!

Not sure why they would have disappearing stairs...it's not really a space saver because you still can't put anything in that space. You might as well leave the stairs open! Also my understanding is that the lack of a banister/railing is not up to code in some places. Might be interesting for a dollhouse though!

I've never understood why I should make the bed when I'm just going to take a nap later in the day! Hubby is always making the bed...even when I'm in it still! He'll wake up to go to work while I'm still sleeping. He'll make his side of the bed, then walk over to my side and fix all the blankets around me! I don't know what the point is since I'll just toss them off of me when I get up!

Oh and what's the point in ironing if your dryer takes all the wrinkles out for you?

Would have been more appropriate with less provocative clothing. They are incredibly talented girls, but the costumes distract people from their routine by making it seem oh so wrong!

I wonder how many people even realize that. Everyone is in such a rush these days...I'm sure that's what companies are hoping for...people too busy to notice and just grabbing what they want quickly w/barely a glance at the price or non-differences in products. Good catch!

We own our house so no rent, and I don't work right now so I can stay home with the boys and go to school. Our housing was at 20% before my husband got laid off. Now that he's working again, it's around 14%! Home ownership can be expensive, but is definitely cheaper than renting! Of course, we live in a cheaper area, too!

Have you tried looking at rental homes, duplexes, or quads? You may not get all the amenities, but maybe you could find a nicer place for your money.

Good luck in your decision!

I do almost everything you do, except my boys seem to change their clothes a million times a day!

Some things I do are to use vinegar in a Downy ball instead of fabric softener, and use less detergent than recommended.

Using tennis balls sounds like a great idea! Perfect for those loads of jeans that never seem to dry!
