I don't have an exact figure but I also believe Monarchists slightly outnumber Republicans. I am in the latter camp but still think of the UK as a friend, ally, partner and a heck of a great place to visit family and sights.
The sharing of Embassies makes great sense. Although we have much in common with our good friends in the US the historic ties to the Commonwealth and many of our traditions arise from our relationship to the UK.

To the average Canadian observer Harper is a known quantity and shows his love of country whereas Iggenstein has spent 34 years away and has berated us in his books and statements, also from foreign soil. There is a difference between a person speaking metaphorically about the truth and a Liberal elitist using his perch to ridicule the country of his birth or pretend he is an American.
