I'm so proud of you! Thank you for sharing this and for opening my eyes to the struggles that adoptive parents face. You are a wonderful mother, and your children are blessed to have you in their life. Fantastic post, friend! And please continue to share this with others; your story can encourage and help so many who feel as isolated and alone as you did.

Knox -- nice to meet you, your questions had me cracking up! I love finding new people to read!

Tony - you're nuts! I enjoyed getting to know a little bit more about you. I also describe myself as an introverted extrovert. If I spend too much time in one space or the other I get supremely cranky. :)

Haha! I love that guy! :) And yes, I look my kids in the eye, but I do need to work on listening to them more.

I tried to read this out loud to my husband, and I had to repeat myself multiple times because he couldn't understand me -- I was laughing too hard. So hilarious!! "...you shouldn't make fun of someone who died for you."
Hahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!! This is pure gold...all around. Thank you, thank you for sharing this. And that picture at the end is priceless! I love it. :)

I feel like high school taught me a lot. I learned to love classic literature. I retained some elementary french. Like you said, I don't really remember that much from history or science...but I didn't really like those classes. I'm sure it was good for me to learn it at the time though. Overall, I think it introduced me to a broad spectrum of topics so that I could go on to college where I focused on more specialized ideas. Also, I attended a private school, so I did learn a lot about God, breaking down scripture and even memorizing passages. I think it all depends on the teacher and the student.

Success means change, and I know how to do what I'm doing now. If I succeed, I don't know where to go from there. But...I still think I'm scared of failing...and people seeing me try, knowing I want it, and it not happening. This definitely gave me some things to think about...

It's so true that our society does not treat seniors with the respect and dignity that other cultures do. Thanks for calling attention to this, Shelley!

I'm so glad that you decided to do this as a video. I loved hearing you speak and watching your hand movements and facial expressions. I feel like I know you so much better now. What a powerful story! In many ways I am still wearing a lot of those same masks you talked about: perfectionism, people-pleasing. When you said you didn't know what kind of music you liked I laughed, because I have that same problem. :) I agree with Katy, you are beautiful -- inside and out.
