I'm pretty much with Dan on this one.
First of all, I'm commenting on my iPhone 4, 4.3.1 and my experience is really similar to his.

1. Time - I don't know about you, but it's pretty much guaranteed there will be a line at my Starbucks. After checking in to various social locations, I still manage to have plenty of time to open the mobile card app and enter my 4-digit passcode. And the convenience of not having to carry my wallet while running or working out completely nullifies this argument for me in most cases. Then again, mommy here is usually juggling boatloads of kid crap while trying to pay with a wallet/card anyways :)
2. Rewards - I don't have a problem here either. Maybe the free stuff would be nice if it wasn't sent via snail mail. But I haven't event reached achieving anything yet, so can't say too much (must.drink.more.starbucks.)
3. WOW, TOTALLY with Dan!!! Wth? Who uses the toilets at Starbucks? And if they did, what kind of idiot leaves their phone on the table open to the app? A renob, that's who. That's not a security breach, that's a dummy. I have far more sensitive information to protect on my phone than my little $15 Starbucks card.

Anyways, I appreciate that you've looked at the app critically, and I think it raises the questions for honing technology to be more useful. I don't know that NFC is the answer yet either...but I suppose that's a story for another day!!

Hi Mike,
Some excellent points here.
Here's a real-life example of my experience when in Chicago for the PCMA and TME meeting last Fall:
Upon discovering there was no wireless Internet access offered (not even for a fee!), I Twittered my dismay. Nothing rude or derogatory, but just sharing my woes with fellow TME attendees. Within 15 minutes, a representative from the Hyatt McCormick Place replied explaining that there new wireless system was being installed and due to be complete the very next week! To top it off, they offered my free wired Internet in my room for the duration of my stay.

Wellll, you can only imagine how loudly I sang their praises to the Twittersphere about how overjoyed I was with their service and the shining example of Social Media usage by a hotel!!

@Moises, you were a perfect ambassador to the MPI attendees in Cancun. You showed up in the Twitterstream time and time again. And in this day and age when we have such limited time to check emails, go to various websites, etc, the fact that a potential client can reach out to you with a simple "@" sign means they might choose you before a competitor!!

It was nice to be able to share a great story about someone doing something right :-)
