While I certainly understand the arguement for having a blog, I think there are exceptions to this rule. I was discussing the idea the other day with a fellow freelancer who currently doesn't have one.
She also doesn't write much for "clients"–she is mostly interested in write for magazines. So she has a blog, and she has a website, but the blog has nothing to do with writer, per say. And I think that's okay, because it illustrates that she can write, should a magazine editor want to know, and her portfolio speaks for itself.
I think the key to deciding IF you need a blog is considering who your customer is and what information they want/need.

Um, yeah. My roommate and I have this problem with HER boyfriend. UGH. Fortunately it's not every week... but there are def. weeks where he spends more time at our house than at his. And one day this week (they are teachers and are on spring break) he was there for a WHOLE DAY while she wasn't; not only that, but she wasn't coming home that night. WEIRD.

I think there are other differences too - Investigative journalism is about searching out the facts for a piece; not writing a report based on existing information, but finding first person accounts. It's about a style too -- investigative writing involved a pyramid style: lead, 5 w's, less important stuff at the bottom... on the web, if you write that way chances are people won't finish reading your blog post.

You also mentioned in your first post on finding an agent that you'd found specific people who you felt would be a good match. I think that's important. Doing the research not just into the overall publishing industry but into the differences between agents, is often overlooked.

Congratulations lady!! What incredible news.... I have no doubt it'll only be a matter of time until you get to write that *other* dream post. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help in the meantime :-)

I think you've got all the steps covered - but I've got a question...

When do you submit your invoice? Typically I include an invoice with the final product; then I wait 10-15 days and follow up with a gentle reminder, checking to make sure they were pleased with the final product and letting them know payment is due within 30 days of final approval.

What's your method? Maybe that's another post instead of a response to a comment, but let me know. :-) curious to hear about your method.

I think you should send this to her (or her agent).
