Trust me: You're missing out on some good, good stuff. Opposing Force is the high point of the pre-HL2 Half Life universe games, with Blue Shift being an interesting, though short, side-story. Borderlands is a completely different kind of game, being more of an action RPG that happens to have shooter controls than a FPS. It's a really good action RPG, but not to everyone's taste.

Before DNF finally came out, I wouldn't have believed they were capable of releasing a game in such a state, and as far as I can tell most of the flaws are there because the mandate was to finish what was already made. Sure, they could have scrapped it and started fresh, but that's what the 3DR DNF team already did at least four times, so I can understand why Gearbox would want to just ship the damn thing.
