you are making a really good point, and I am guilty as charged. However, in my defense, I have been a customer of fast food restaurants that use this product, and have in the last decade purchased ground meat in supermarkets and would not be concerned if they continue to use it. In fact, I haven't even inquired because I just don't care.

In the second half of your reply you actually make the point I am trying to make, which is that for average Americans the prospect of food inflation is serious. Taking pink slime out of the market will drive up the price of proteins (and it's not just beef, processed pork and chicken is also under fire). We have a large population of people, in this country and globally, that require affordable food products, and at the quantities necessary for a food supply chain of this size you simply can't get away from the notion that a level of industrialization is necessary.

Your comment "until 2001 it was certified for use in animal food" is misleading. The LFTB process was created in 1994 in response to food contamination issues, and went through a period of USDA testing, and as anyone who has dealt with the government can attest, nothing at this level happens quickly.

and 2 months later the other party's insurance carrier (or Avis, I really don't know which one... he was driving a rental car) hasn't reimbursed me for the $1k in rental car expense I incurred while my car was in the autobody shop. Yes, a little bitter.

It's probably a good idea if it could be treated like a lockbox and only the insurance company and vehicle owner could access it, and policy holders are given the option of enabling the video feature in exchange for a discount.

Thanks for responding.

To be clear, you were triggering fraud blocks on a card being used with merchants I have a history with... these are not new merchants or while on vacation. Furthermore, in the several conversations I have had with your customer service people, no one has explained to me how every single fraud block you put on my card was the result of a false positive while the actual fraud you completely missed.

You really need to straighten this out with your service provider.

If you break down Tumblr traffic and isolate porn and copyright violators, the numbers are not as impressive as they would appear.

The same thing happened to Ning and when their advertiser driven business model forced them to kill porn from their network (advertisers don't like having their ads show up on porn) the company backslid into oblivion.

He's embarrassed the world didn't end? One would think he would be slightly relieved, maybe even happy.

I usually turn it off but mostly because I am typically transiting in places I know well.

Rick,
Many of the points you raise I agree with.

- Battery life... I dealt with that in my post. It's an issue and no one should count on a dramatic improvement in battery technology. This will have to come from Google and hardware partners.

- I had a chuckle when you pointed out consistency across iOS devices... of course, you can only get them from one company!

- The wild west in the app store is a positive for me because this is one of the reasons I switched away from Apple, in order to use an app on my phone Apple has to let me do it.

- the calendar/email/contacts issue is not an issue for me, I use google apps at home and work. I can see it is an issue for Microsoft shops or anyone who wants to use Outlook.

- The hardware permutations of the OS is something to be concerned about and I was deliberate about trying out the Samsung variation before committing to it. Sometimes this works in the users favor, as is the case with Swype and Viingo (which Samsung replaced the Android phone dialer with). I agree that potential for abuse is high and from what I have read Google is signaling that they will lock parts of the UX down in the future.

- Carrier issues are also real, I use Sprint and have had a mildly positive experience and I say mildly because I don't know what a good experience would look like.

Well she is certainly qualified based on a her oversight of a declining share price and dramatically overpaying for acquisitions. She will fit right in at HP.

Gerstner's time was in a different era. Consolidation and efficiency are no longer what creates market leaders, HP needs a CEO who can revitalize an R&D culture, create new channels as well as reinforce existing ones, develop new businesses and build a sales culture steeped in enterprise and multi-channel disciplines.

Time will tell but nothing has swayed me from the view that the HP Board has continued their streak of wrong hires.
