Santorum's surge in Iowa (heh) shows two things:

1) Retail/handshake politics still work in Iowa.
2) Iowa rarely predicts a candidate or a winner, but is more useful in knocking people out of the race. See Rick Perry.

That's a good point, but I don't think this one comment clogs the discourse we promote on the site. Also, I'm gay and recognize as much as anyone the pain remarks like that can cause, which is why I think it's important to show that hatred exists and not gloss over it and pretend it doesn't.

I'm sure that's true, but I'd argue that the overall trend is toward acceptance and support.
