Victoria, you are correct that Perry put the bill back on the call, but it took him over a week after Dewhurst requested it. A full week! In a four week session. He also told a supporter at the RLC in New Orleans that the votes were not there, AFTER Dewhurst requested the bill be added to the call because he had the votes. There is no doubt that Dewhurst and Straus were complicit in killing the bill, but to believe that Perry is squeaky clean. I can assure you that the last person on the planet I will campaign for is the islamo-fascist currently in the white house.
BTW, are you friends with Mickey's family?
I am intimately familiar with how the Texas legislature works. Perry was presented with a letter from Dewhurst well over 1 week before he finally added it to the call. That one week delay forced the lege into a corner where the only way to actually send the bill to the guv was to get 120 votes. There were only 123 legislators left in Austin by the time the vote came to the floor.
Perry and Dewhurst and Straus worked together to use the rules of the legislative bodies to work against the possibility of passage. There are far more details than I have given here, but I assure you the demise of that bill rests squarely on the shoulders of our so called leaders in Texas.
There will be a credible challenge to all three of these gentlemen in the next election.
Sarah Palin has shown she has great influence among the electorate. The last thing we want to do is hamstring her in the role of RNC Chair. She is far more dangerous to the Dems as long as she remains a type of loose cannon. Don't ruin a good thing by formalizing her role in the RNC.
