What is crazy is that we do actively subsidize the purchase of junk food, sodas, candy bars, and non-foods via food stamps. Any attempts by states to restrict food stamp use to things that are more like real "food" are shot down by the feds. If we are going to call it a nutrition program, then lets buy stuff that is nutritious. If you want a candy-bar or an ice-cream sandwich, buy it with your own money and not the taxpayers'.

A federal judge has already knocked out the key plank in the bill as unconstitutional. Might as well start planing for the SCOTUS to do the same.
Somebody still has to make sure the stuff we all use work. It is honest work and we all need it done -- and done well. We need more people in this country who know how to do things and God gave us two hand for a reason. I also think we need to look hard at colleges and ask why they can't get serious about graduating students in three years. Who needs all that added debt of the final year. Streamline it and let these student get to the part of their life where they make a living.
I used to work in an elected offical's office and we would get pre-canned letters all the time. What was fun was to Google key phrases and find the web sites used to generate the pre-written letters.
