I once had a conversation with a guy-- a "guy's guy," you know the type-- who said to me, "You know, it's really great being a guy. I get away with so much." I think most males know this deep down inside, as much as they complain.
On the other hand, there are so many reasons why I love being a girl. I can be bad at sports and "male" games like chess, I can be bad at math, and I can cry when I'm upset. Of course, as you said, the reason men can't get away with this stuff is because they are taught to hate all that is "feminine" within them. So yeah, patriarchy hates men, too, but women still get the short end of the stick.

I feel so bad for her daughter. This is one of my favorite of her songs. [youtube HkKk-qvV52Q&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkKk-qvV52Q&feature=related youtube]

As for what I'm reading, this article is by one of my favorite high school teachers. It's about the contraception coverage controversy. He is a very smart man, left a big impact on me as a student. http://bigthink.com/ideas/42406.

Wow, you're right. The comments on My Perfect Vulva are pretty infuriating. I'm certainly guilty of my fair share of cissexism, but I don't understand the desire to be so utterly mean and nasty, you know? Like how does that make anyone feel good?

My Reactions:
-Not only is blackface offensive, but that guy did a TERRIBLE job! Did anyone actually think he was black?
-Oh my God that "ghetto" accent (I hate using that word but you know that's what he was thinking).
-"Malcolm X...he was bad." Ugh.
-"That lady on the bus. What was her name?" You should know this!
-"There's 50 cents, I don't know!" There's no "s," sweety.
-"There was a lot more, I guess you could say, 'colored people.'" No you cannot say that, bro.
-The impressions of black people...kill me.
-I actually know someone who's black who goes to BYU. Someone posted this video on her wall and said, "How do you deal with this shit?" Her response: "I don't know how I do -__-"

I have to say, though, and PLEASE don't think I'm excusing his behavior, but I honestly think this guy was trying to be offensive. He is just terribly misguided. This video might have actually been more effective if he wasn't in blackface, because assuming that the people who he interviewed somehow actually believed he was a black man, they might have been censoring themselves. I just don't know how people haven't gotten the memo that blackface is offensive. Haven't, like, 3000 college frat scandals drilled home the message?

Agreed. Plan B is not a very healthy or good thing to put in your body. Most people would rather use protection than mess with their hormones. Besides, for a lot of people, $25 is no small amount of money-- condoms are still way cheaper. I highly doubt that this is going to make plan B use go up.

You're right, it's disgusting that none of the other white people jumped in. I feel so bad for that black guy who looked like he was about to punch the lady with the toddler when she almost said the n-word, but was made to sit down. Well, maybe it wouldn't have come to that if ANYONE else besides the Caribbean lady had to her to STFU. I don't know how people are able to sit through that bullshit. I would lose it.

Oh my God, I miss reading novels. All I read now is the news, blogs (this one, for example), and my school reading assignments. I remember being a little kid and reading book after book after book...Good times :'(

I second that. I don't always agree with everything I read here, but this blog has taught me a lot and brought my attention to issues I wouldn't otherwise necessarily be exposed to.

Before I started visiting this blog, I would say things like, "It doesn't matter if you identify as a feminist or not, because if you believe in feminist values, then you are a feminist." Now I understand why this is wrong.
