balance for sure. agreed! and for all the reasons listed here. and it's faster than printing in any case. and a lot less annoying than texting. Happier for knowing it as a skill and will never consider it useless. So far even with all the technological advances -- it hasn't underperformed.
AW! but we love Rick Astley... lol
I hope voicemail isn't dead. I hate texting. I'm a 75 words per minute typist and the most tedious thing I can do all day is only use my thumbs. ugh! Plus I never really ever get anything accomplished by text. I guess I'm old fashioned. but I'm ok with that. Although phone transcription texting sounds awesome. That I am all in for! lol
Love this article! Phrases that 'beat around the bush' just don't get to the point! And dragging a thing out longer doesn't necessarily make it more stylistically interesting. Less syllables - more power - maximum impact. Not just for journalists - for everyone. It's very refreshing when you can say what you mean. And much of the time, a relief to read it on a page .
We can probably expect to see this happening more and more as texting and twittering is not going away. Who knows it might even change the English language for good some day. On the other side of that coin, wouldn't it be lovely if copy editors became more 'in demand' than ever. Can a niche become more niche? lol
I've known about the rule for years. But it is such a drilled in habit from my typewriter days - pre-computers. I am even doing it now. Ugh! I guess some of us writers just like how pretty it looks even if it doesn't make sense anymore. Although, I find that when pure blogging, I tend to follow the old rule less and do the one space thing. In any case, I'm happy to not fight progress. :)
Thanks for the giggle Andrew!
nice but more like boywear rather than men's wear...
