Great post - I totally agree. RE 'stop and organize' - whenever I put a meeting into my diary, I allocate two additional slots - one before to prepare adequately, and one after to review thoroughly. After a few weeks, this becomes second nature.

I'll give it a bash too. It'll be interesting what happens when a single verse rattles around in my brain for a week. Or, to put it another way, when I meditate and ruminate on it!

This is a really interesting post. While I don't work in 'full-time' ministry, I apply similar principles (which I've been blogging about recently) to prioritise activities in my life.

Over time, my team has got used to me not speaking or speaking last. Initially there were awkward silences, occasionally I left the room, but now they know that if I ask for their input I mean it and will listen. Actually, they don't have to wait for permission to speak - as a team we are able to have conversations, even difficult ones, with respect for each other and a bit of fun along the way.
My advice to anyone wanting to try it - give it time, and be consistent.

For people like my Dad - and, I guess, yours - is that their influence will outlive them in very significant ways.

This is a very brave post. It's also very honest. It's also painfully close to the reality of many of us.

Thank you for opening this up, and challenging me (and others) - even if that wasn't your intention!

Aye - sounds like you've been eavesdropping on my nightmare/reality. This post is so close to describing my current position that it made me laugh out loud. Please don't take this the wrong way but I was glad to see that you were feeling overwhelmed - in that
