1. I'm thankful for the Internet since it's my primary social outlet as well as an endless delight of research.
2. I'm thankful for meeting new people who have similar experiences. It doesn't make the pain go away, but it makes me feel less alone.
3. I'm thankful I got to spend a day alone. I was nervous at first, but the quiet has been good for my nerves.
4. I'm thankful for my baby kitty Archangel. He's so adorable.
5. I'm thankful that I know when my family gets home, I'll get big hugs. They're so supportive and loving. I'm very lucky.

Thank you, Melissa, for the constant reminder to be thankful. :)

Not a train wreck at all! It was so nice seeing your family. I also think your signature mask is very creative. Great job!

Of course it is a controversial topic, Melissa, but there are plenty of studies linking mental illness with intelligence and creativity. Beyond that, look at the historical evidence. Churchill called his depression "The Black Dog." Here's a post I wrote recently on the subject. :) If You Have a Mental Health Problem, You Might Be a Genius <a href="http://shttp://survivinglimbo.blogspot.com/2010/07/if-you-have-mental-health-problem-you.html" target="_blank">shttp://survivinglimbo.blogspot.com/2010/07/if-you-have-mental-health-problem-you.html

Wow indeed! I think hardship sometimes is a mixed blessing. It draws people together or reveals how close they already are. I have nothing so dramatic to share, but I've been disabled over 3 years. My husband, also, is disabled now. (You'd think fate would cut us a break?) As a result, we have some pretty severe financial problems as well as the difficulties of dealing with our illnesses while giving our young daughter the love, support, and guidance that she needs. This has been the roughest period in our lives, but we have never been closer as a family unit. Thanks so much for sharing. That was an amazing story!

Oops I forgot to mention my title. Surviving Limbo refers to the feeling that your life is on hold because of your mental illness. :)

We have a lot in common. I have panic attacks, generalized anxiety disorder, PTSD, and Major Depression. I am also severely overweight and "borderline" diabetic. Thanks for explaining the title. I liked it. My thoughts were that it implied 1) People who are depressed tend to comfort themselves with sweet foods and 2) Sometimes people expect us to "fake it." The sugar metaphor reminds me of a sort of false happiness that's not good for you because it has no real meaning. Stay in touch!
