I will be at the IdeaCamp, and I live in Austin...so I always find a way to get down to SXSW at least once or twice. This year, they have an educator's week - REALLY want to attend this.

One thing I don't do: stay after school for any period of time or bring grading home with me

One thing I do do: enjoy my evenings with my husband by unplugging from the classroom & my students. Freedom indeed.

Me:

*Watch Elf. Always makes me laugh. ALWAYS.
*And in terms of your personal board of what you want to accomplish, I saw an idea the other day of a "birthday bucket" where you list things you wish to accomplish by your next birthday. Pretty stellar.

Your new family portraits are precious. I love the one with the "twins!" sign. Too cute.

"that" - I hate this word. Especially when used incorrectly - which is almost always the case.

Hint: His name is John - he is the guy WHO built the school.
(not)
His name is John - he is the guy THAT built the school.

I'm also likely to cringe if you use "hubby". In fact - I'll grimace if you say pretty much any pet name. Leave it where it belongs, thanks.

Yeah. I was definitely challenged by the episode. Specifically - Kurt. There's a moment where he looks at another character who is dubious towards his [non]relationship towards God & he says, "the church hasn't been the friendliest towards gays. Or women."

It always breaks my heart whenever I hear this. Mainly because I know it's true - and I know I have my own history of growing up under ideas & theology that don't necessarily mesh with Scripture. Realizing this and taking steps toward a more authentic faith has been hard - and has brought a lot of snide comments from those who think differently. It's one thing to be hurt by the church as a Christian. The episode gave me a peek at what it's like for those who aren't Christians and feel hurt or abused by either the church or those who claim Christ. Eye opening.
