I'm very sorry for this man's loss of his dogs. However, this kind of information only contributes to the confusion surrounding real assistance ("service") dogs. Assistance ("service") dogs can help people with mental disabilities, but the tasks the dogs perform must be more than the provision of emotional comfort. Assistance dogs are specifically trained to help mitigate the effects of an individual's disability. Normally an individual only has one service dog, not two.
