I think our article gives a fairly complete picture about the success of "money diplomacy" between Taiwan and China. At least when it comes to Grenada and St Lucia. Of course this can be applied to other recognition "contests" like with South Ossetia and Abhkazia and how Nauru (out of all countries) has recognized the two Georgian breakaway republics, mostly to get Russian financial aid. If the Dominican Republic does switch recognition in the next couple of years to Beijing, it would give another example about the effectiveness of all the investments the mainland is carrying out like re the resorts etc.

Dear Katrina, It's pretty debatable whether Beijing will go to war to Taiwan to re-annex it, or with the Philippines over the Spratly islands - or with the other countries that claim ownership over the islands (which I've researched in a personal capacity). With that said, China, due to its massive economy and growth rate, it certainly requires lot of resources, be them from Central Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa...
