The way I see it, the only person that we should be concerned about offending with these mints is Kali. And since the company that makes them is still around, she seems to be okay with them.

And as Fire Lyte pointed out, I'm not sure that this is any more offensive than the Buddy Christ bobble-heads, or the crucifix lollipops, or those frying pans you can get that will leave an imprint of the Virgin Mary on them. I was much more bothered by the depiction of the gods in the remake of Clash of the Titans than some mints.

And as has been already mentioned: curry mints? Eew.

Well, it's not exactly blaming secret satanists for the sexual abuse but blaming Satan for criticism of the Pope comes kinda close:

What are the data regarding membership decline in the Catholic Church? I can't help but wonder if renewed revelations of sexual abuse in the Church will spark a moral panic similar to the SRA allegations. If membership is declining, and the Church's media image deteriorates, I wonder if the only Protestant biases and misinformation about Catholic ritualism will become more prominent, and lead to larger movements against Catholicism?

Unfortunately, I can also see an effort to blame the abuse in the Catholic Church on a secret "network of Satanists" who infiltrated the Church to bring it down. As the Protestants come down on the Catholics, look for the Catholics to come down on us.

True dat. I've encountered pagans that were just as dogmatic -- which is really hard to so, since there are no pagan scriptures and no real orthodoxy. I met one guy that wouldn't shake my hand until he asked if I was pagan, because he says he doesn't talk to non-pagans. He must have big problems shopping.

I was thinking the same thing. Watch for him to make a statement that kicking the witches out sooner would have prevented it, or something along those lines.

Anything that is unusual tends to stand out in such stories. Since your average American is a Protestant Christian, no one sees anything out of the ordinary is a murderer is a Protestant Christian. But if the accused is a Wiccan, well, that's unusual, and if people haven't heard about Wicca, they just might wonder if it somehow influence the behavior.

But you're right, it is strange that Wicca would stand out in this case as important when the accused was noted for quoting the Bible. But then again, I have little faith in journalists anymore.
