I think CNN needs to take a close look at White America. They are long overdue for a "White In America" special.

You better go off! I never liked the question, although I don't mind answering. I have a unique ability to render even the most ignorant question harmless by my clever responses, but honestly I am so sick of this hetero as the default crap. Its A sexual orientation not THEE sexual orientation.

So many powerful quotes, and I truly appreciate men like Martin Luther King Jr for providing a template of what critical consciousness looks like. He was not perfect, but he was always striving towards greater understanding and greater love.

I'm torn on the subject matter, but glad to know that a black woman is helming a film that is getting notoriety. We need more women behind the scenes in film, and I am glad that Terry Gross is opening that door.

I'm a feminist because I have a love and respect for female and male being, but I refuse to privilege one over the other. <3

I love this list, and I have happily retweeted it and shared it on my Facebook (with credits). These are all things I strive towards as a feminist in the 21st century and particularly one in 2010.

I'm a secular humanist but I support atheists. I'm just a little more upfront with the fact that I don't believe in supernatural beliefs. That being said, I know way too many women who have leadership positions in the atheist movement, so this notion that women aren't atheists strikes me as odd. Melody Hensly is just one of the women doing great work in the atheist community that I am aware of.

Great post!

Thoroughly enjoyed this review and I appreciate the critical analysis as opposed to "I hate Tyler Perry." This is the first review that has truly spoken to me the hesitation black women have with the work being appropriated and your attention to detail in terms of dedication to the narrative really resonated with me.

Also, as a black gay man and feminist I was moved by your concern for the way Perry chose to present black gay male sexuality.

Thank you for this moving review that has the ability to reach and start a dialog on the film. ♥
