Thank you for presenting a cogent response to this nonsensical argument.

My church is run by members voluntarily on the local and regional levels. No one is hired or fired (or paid), so it's never an issue at church. (Currently I'm a youth music director and my husband teaches Sunday School.)

But as employers, we have been in the position to let people go and its, to be honest, horrible. Sometimes it's not because they aren't performing, but because you simply can't afford to keep them on due to changes in projects, sales, etc. But sometimes the employee is really not qualified and is a huge financial (and often emotional) drain on a company. In those cases, the employee almost never see his/her own weaknesses and it's almost impossible not to lose friends in the process. No one takes kindly to being let go -- even if necessary.

Just wanted to say that it's good to see you back writing. I realize this is now almost a month old, but I missed it until now.

Hope to hear more good stuff from you. :)

Most of the time I simply write what appeals to me or what seems most compelling. But this past week I actually created an editorial calendar for my life hack blog. I was surprised by how helpful the exercise was -- even though I really don't plan to follow it.

Of course not. Because most responses to criticism are simply reactionary. It's much easier to call you a bigot or a racist or a _______ than to actually listen to a position and respond to the actual ideas.

Ad hominem seems to be the tactic of choice these days. Unfortunately, too often it works! :/

Another thoughtful post. I think the same thing has happened on gender issues. While I do see discrimination against women, the answer is not to turn it into discrimination against men.

Love the book quote. And being impossible to prove a negative, it makes the predicament even worse.

Wow, I started to respond and it turned into an essay. If I get time, I'll blog my response and backlink here. :)

Love to hear your thoughts, as usual, ileane. You're a well-spoken woman.
