as you may know YB, In Malaysia and many other countries that based their political system from the British which is almost all the commonwealth countries including the USA has the same system... they might call it with different names but it is almost the same system which is the "electoral colligate system". Like in Malaysia, not all parts of the country has modern road systems that can link within the constitution for the parliamentarian to do his/her job. for an example, the MP of BUKIT BINTANG if compare to the MP of HULU RAJANG of Sarawak, it would take the later 3 days non-stop by boat and walking thru the jungle to cover his 5000 voters and it is the half the size of state of Pahang compare to his counterpart in Bukit Bintang that could probably drive thru his constituency in 20 minutes depending on the traffic and Bukit Bintang has more then 100,000 voters. If you want HULU RAJANG to have the same size of voters, it would take a month probably for the MP to do his round. You see, this is just an example of the so called "rural factors" that was taken in when making of any constituency, especially the outskirt ones. Pakatan has the same opportunity to win votes from this area as much as BN and election process was done fairly in the last General Election. I guess Pakatan should plan now but have to wait another 5 years for the next election and try again.
