It would be nice if for once the police "guiding" the runners didn't give wrong directions. Several runners seeking to qualify for the Boston Marathon were given a direction from an officer that made them go four blocks out of their way. This put them off by half a mile. I don't know if they were able to qualify or not but the one runner who posted on a runner's site said he told a track official about it so that he could be "disqualified" due to not following the course. (He was actually the one who got the group back on course as he had lived in SB once upon a time.) The official said not to worry about it. Okay, so perhaps it was no big deal as they wouldn't have come in first, i.e., no money awards were at issue. However, if the others didn't get to qualify due to the mishap, then all the weeks and months of training and monies set aside were for naught. This isn't the first year the officers have given wrong directions to a runner. That cost him the win in the 10K. Another marathoner was hit by the motorcycle the policeman was using to guide the runners!! Crazy. If it's a qualifier for the Boston Mar., than the officers involved should treat the participants at least as good as say an ND football player!

It's a sad day when you get negative votes for asking people to read the Bible. Enough said about why the violence multiplies.

Remember the political slogan, "It's the economy, stupid" ? Well, it's the cruddy economy that Burkhart was thinking about, and par for the course, ND delivered those who wanted to spend their money here. If you live by the sword, then you die by it. Can't just have the "yea sayers" be the only ones to spend their money here. But, oh yeah, that's right--ND thinks they own the place and we let them by sitting patiently like dogs next to the masters table waiting for the bone. And whoa mama aren't we happy when company comes a calling cuz then them victuals gets reeeaaaal good. Ah, living like a leech isn't all bad.

Sure, a community whose worth depends on how well a group of kids play a ball game is no kind of community. And a community who basis its entire yearly budget on the back of said kids aren't even fit to call themselves adults. They need to get a grip and get some real jobs around here.

Rant Part 2

I wonder if you will feel the same when you have to raise your kids here and see that this small pond has way to many big fish in it. From B. Patrick Baur trying to run the state with his nonsense to Mayor Lueke doing nothing to keep the west end from going bust, it's obvious why those who have seen opportunity after opportunity go by would feel this way. The new building going on around ND doesn't count as that is to mainly benefit ND life and it's community and Alumni, and yes, like leeches will hang on for the ride. But go elsewhere and you will see it. Do you live in Granger? How about a trip to the far side, that would be the west side to you, where nary a grocery, or clothing or chain restaurant exists (other than fast food ones) even though it borders the airport. Businesses know where it's not safe and where the losses would be to great due to the crime, etc. Yet, yearly, leaders let it go until the most high OBAMA gets his picture that is painted on the wall of the West Side Dem. club vandalized then the world must stop rotating so it can be fixed. Meanwhile, another child is gunned down and the local politicians don't say boo to that simply because it's life as usu. to them. ND grads don't get it until they have to raise a family here and go to the PUBLIC schools. Do it! I dare you. Raise a kid here and put him in Riley or washington high school. Let's see how you feel about SB then!
With all that stellar education, those kids will grow up to sell goods and services to all the ND fans who have a real life, and the finances to go with it, who then spend their nickle and dimes in SB where the workers are brainwashed into thinking living paycheck to paycheck is a bomb of a life.
Look at the difference between Mishawaka and SB. Though in the same area, it's night and day difference yet even there jobs are only the sort that exists due to people in other parts of the country having the money to buy what's manufactured here--adult toys (isn't that what an RV is? The toys of those who did it right and can now retire and have money to spend?

oh please! They are kids but are they to end up being mice or men? They are football players and I'm sure a fair share of them have treated, and tread upon, the nerds in their path similarly. What goes around comes around.

The almost adults "busting their butts to prove those guys wrong" should have nothing to worry about if they want to play football because they aren't recruited based on overall team winning or team stats, but mostly on individual stats and attributes (however I am not an expert on player drafting, that just seems logical to me), as a lot of professional players seem to come from back water universities that don't exactly have the football teams like those of the Florida's, Ohio's, and other stellar programs.

Besides, if all else fails and the season turns south, they can always decide to study to get their minds off things which is what they're supposed to be there for anyway, and not to generate millions for the backward economic community that is South Bend.

It would be as much fun as spitting in the wind for all the good it would do. The minds of the average SB citizen are as numb as a frost bitten thumb and twice as ugly! But yet . . . there's always hope, and it WOULD be worth every penny spent.
To save money, and get your message across, the next time you see him out and about, boldly walk up with a beaming smile and a hand extended in friendship, but instead of ye ol' handshake, when he offers his own hand up, retract yours and give him a thumbs down and watch him struggle to keep a friendly demeanor. Loads of laughs are sure to erupt from . . .YOU! Good luck!

I think her parents should have another (if they ever had one) about respecting officials such as Policemen. If you go barreling through a parking lot full of people, you're a danger to everyone there, and just because you got caught and not wanting to face the consequences, to then go and hit someone else (and a Cop at that) is just despicable.

She better learn well from this and is remorseful and changes, because people don't deserve to have to deal with her otherwise.

You know what? I bet other schools could care less whether or not their players major in janitorial studies or even finish the degree "program" of choice as long as they squeeze every bit of juice outta them to ensure the school gets their money's worth.
If ND can't perform to the standards of, let's say a USC, let's hope it's because the less academically savvy aren't recruited to play here. (FACT: Those players entering Syracuse U with a less than stellar GPA are ASSIGNED a tutor to follow them around from class to class helping them even take CLASS NOTES in addition to being a study "partner." Additionally, the FB Players live in condo-type "dormitories" complete with their own cafeteria where only the "finest foods" are served--those foodstuffs meant to ensure players who enter as boys will become behemoths by the time they leave. Our QB doesn't look much bigger after two yrs. here than he was when he arrived.)
