An older version of redsn0w might work?? I've never done the iPad baseband with this version but the one previous I have. I don't the exact version number..., but the one under the blog title ultra recycle. Can't hurt to try right?

EDIT: Actually if you're on 4.3.1, it more than likely won't work. So.. what to do now...

I would say the simplest thing to do is restore with a custom firmware for 4.3.1 with PwnageTool if you have or have access to a Mac; if PC is your only option, make a custom firmware with sn0wbreeze for Windows. If your friend has an AT&T (or your country's original carrier) sim, then unclick activate and do option (or shift if your Windows) + restore with the custom firmware.

Don't unzip the ipsw. ipsw literally stands for "iphone software". Restore with the ipsw or create custom firmware and restore with corresponding ipsw.

ultrasn0w fixer released?

I saw this in the pushfix.info repo and it's popping up on a few other news sites. Is this Dev Team created/supported/suggested? Anyone else try this to confirm it works? Is this how the fix was planned to be released or is there going to be an update to ultrasn0w itself?

I'm not going to answer question 1 because you better know the answer by now; Wait.

2) Unlocks are not dependent on iOS version, but rather baseband number. Whatever they come up with, it should work with 3.1.3. iOS 4.2.1 is tolerable on 3G in my opinion. It's not terrible like iOS 4.0.x.

3) I don't experience any other issues with 6.15 on 3G other than loss of GPS. If you really can't wait, and you really want unlock and you don't care about GPS, then go ahead and do the iPad baseband method.

I don't remember if 5.11.07 is one of the basebands that's friendly with the latest ultrasn0w. Maybe I'm thinking of one even older like 4.26...

In any case, doing what JR LA suggested will not hurt all. If you still have issues with unlock, you should check to see if you have SHSH saved for 4.0.2.

5.15.04 is NOT presently an unlockable baseband. You could update to 6.15.00 (iPad baseband), but I would not suggest it. I was in your shoes about 3 months ago and got desperate so I did it before the warnings went up and lost my GPS functionality. Sad, but true. However, I have a phone and I have the Dev Team to thank for that.

You're smartest choice is to wait. The iOS 4.3 update is scheduled to release on March 11th (source: Apple) and the Dev Team will likely be right on their trail with first an untethered jailbreak, then an unlock. Though it's not guaranteed, you're best option is to wait it out a few more weeks and see how things pan out.

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried this with MetroPCS in the US? Are there ANY reports of ANY other CDMA providers doing this??

Very weird... Well if you're on 4.2 with the latest PwnageTool, then at the very least you updated untethered while preserving your baseband. The hardest part is over. You could try running the latest redsn0w, clicking only to install Cydia. I can't say 100% this will work, but at least it's another option. Alternatively, you could also use greenpois0n, but I find better luck with redsn0w in most situations.
