Gibson did not punch his girlfriend in the mouth. Gibson's girlfriend already had chipped teeth which were covered by veneers. She accidently broke the veneers which resulted in her chipped teeth showing again. As a result, she used the re-appearance of her chipped teeth as the basis of her allegation against Gibson. The claim was investigated by the police and found to be false.

As far as his rants go: who hasn't lost their temper and said things that were designed to to hurt and be heard only by the intended target and are later deeply regreted?

Would anyone's reputation stand if everything they said in private were published? Gibson was set up as a target of a deliberate character assassination.
