Have you ever found that Wicket gets in your way at all when you're trying to build something? When I did stuff with ASP.net, a lot of my time was spent trying to figure out how NOT to use ASP.net because it sucked. But it sounds like Wicket is way better.

I personally love the simple "view" part of Rails (along with activerecord). If I were to start from scratch on a reasonably simple web app I would definitely build it in rails or django, which I've heard is pretty similar.

Group dating is definitely an awesome way to date and meet new people. I think the major barrier is just getting a critical mass of people doing it in a certain city, and then it'll be awesome! I would have definitely used it when I lived in NYC, and I'll try to start using it here in Boulder.

Also, I should mention that an Ignighter group date saved my life back in 'nam. "Charlie" would have detected our patrol, but luckily he was on a group date with some hotties.

Great post Kevin. we're working on getting a product out the door, and then we'll actually need this!

Ingrid, I've actually had a fairly good experience on the receiving email end. I haven't experience the agony of having to send large email on a large scale yet.

I think the key to solving this will be a bulletproof "online reputation" system linked to your id (either a handle or your actual identity). If there's a simple and effective government system where people can build a reputation around an id, lodge complaints against an id and resolve disputes effectively, then those ids can be used to send email. Companies and other organizations could also build up reputations around their ids. So every email you get could have a "reputation" score of the sender. I think email providers have some simplified reputation system, but it's based on things like IP address/etc, which seems like the wrong idea.
