I haven't read his site or post but as a former Marine I remember my oath, the same one my son just made as he enlisted in the Army. We gave an oath to defend this country and our Constitution against ALL foes foreign and domestic. I almost stopped my enlistment when I got to that part needing to quickly decide if I could stand against people at home if it became necessary. In boot camp and at every point after I was taught and expected those under me to obey all lawful orders and to refuse unlawful orders. Joining the Marines isn't giving up our country or Constitution but instead about knowing who gives our orders and when the orders are lawful or unlawful.
You ignore that the 1990s were a different situation and MA was a liberal state with 80% democrat legislators. How do you think Romney would represent the people of that state? 2012 is a much different environment and as a business man with a record of saving the Winter Olympics and turning around numerous businesses Romney is taking a much different approach to governing this time. Unlike you and other ideologues other people change as their lives change. Romney is not my ideal choice nor my first choice but he is a loving husband, to the same wife, and loving father to his sons and I believe that a successful businessman has learned what it takes to change this economy. If I had my preference Marco Rubio or LtCol West would be my choice but that isn't an option.
The only way we will lose this up coming election is if enough ideologues stay home or support someone other than the Republican nominee. If he doesn't live up to his promises, whoever it is, I am all for starting up a 3 rd party to replace both parties in the 2016 race. PS I am a libertarian with conservative ideals that wants a government that governs least but our country isn't ready for that yet.
Unfortunately it is more than greed that is the problem. If there isn't a solid moral fabric that accepts hard work and personal responsibility lead to success in life left in our country then our gov't will fail too. Greed if it doesn't overwhelm the system will actually improve life for many people as greedy people want more success, services, and products so they create jobs unless they can corner a market and squeeze others out.
Gov'ts can be destructive even if there isn't greed involved. Communist countries really weren't built on greed yet their citizens lived live far worse than we live. Your attitude doesn't look at the aspects of what you claim it is just a glib rallying cry and doesn't hold up to scrutiny.
Back when I was teaching economics in an inner city school I used this activity myself when discussing economic systems. I didn't actually base their grade on the plan but did give a couple of quizzes using the grading system. It didn't take the kids long to figure out the problem. I then started a discussion on the impact this economic approach had on societies. This professor has given his students a lesson they won't forget and I hope one they will apply to the world of work they are entering.
We call ourselves former Marines as there are no ex-Marines, the dad is right with the term he used. Semper Fi
They get too much power and rigged districts ending up stay for decades. Just look at Barney Frank elected over and over until his protected district was changed and decided not to run. We have had years of elections with over 90% getting reelected no matter how bad things are so it is clear elections aren't going to end entrenched politicians.
I agree with you the problem is with the voters but I am not willing to allow them to destroy our country. I think the states need to pass a Constitutional Amendment then the court couldn't rule it unconstitutional.
Lugar has been a good man for Indiana, first as a mayor of Indianapolis and as a Senator but he has been there too long. It is time for him to go as 30 some years in office and 78 years old is a combination that isn't good for our country. He is a prime example of why we need term limits in Congress and the Senate as even good politicians get captured by the system.
The next world war will be a religious war as Islam's population is increasing at far greater rate than the industrialized countries. The problem with this, beside the radicals, is Islam isn't a religion but a movement that encompasses every aspect of life - spiritual, cultural, and governmental. When a movement takes the approach that anyone that isn't part of their movement is an infidel deserving to be killed; then they are setting the stage for a massive war.
This coming war has to do with the idea about the equality of all or the subjugation of groups of people. Ultimately Islam will fail because how long can they keep their women repressed the way they do. At some point the women will stand up and say they would rather die than submit, learning that they can fight back rather than meekly take the killings that occur under Islamic rule.
We need Lt Col West as our commander in chief to fight this threat and make sure our country is prepared for the coming war. I don't think China will side with Islam as they have their own problem with Islam spreading into areas of their country among the hundreds of millions of rural poor. This group is a real threat to the government of China and they can't take a chance on empowering this dangerous group in their country.
