After three conferences at my child's school last year because of her behavior, she was removed and placed in a private school where she has turned her behavior around. She knows that she was moved from her friends at the old school because of her behavior. Her hide is so tough that paddling would be a waste of energy. She knows that the next stop will be a convent. We acknowledge that we HAD a problem child and placed her in a situation where she gets helps with her attitude and no longer distracts other children. Parents must realize that behavior problems are their problem and if not nipped in the bud will bear noxious fruit in the long run. Good thing my child is a girl. A son would not be sitting down yet.

A whole lot more hinnies need to be fired up in school. Spare the rod and spoil the child. I would never teach in a public school where corporal was not used. The behavior in some public schools is atrocious. Short of corporal punishment, take the parents of unruly students to court for negligent child rearing. That would make some parents beg for the return of corporal punishment. It is patently unfair for well trained students to endure the distraction of ill raised, ill bred and obnoxious louts. Wonder why some many parents are choosing private and Christian schools? We make the sacrifice and pay private tuition to send our child to a private school so that she can advance in atmosphere where learning is paramount and ill behavior is NOT TOLERATED. Corporal punishment is available but RARELY REQUIRED because the students know that it is available and will be used with the parents blessing. Frankly, I have never known it to be used but know that it is available when all else fails. God help a child of mine who gets a paddling at school . Call the social workers if you like but if you take them out of my home because I punished them, just plan on keeping them.

I am not sure that the rap sheet is relevant to the discussion, but it certainly makes you wonder about the type of clientele that frequents this establishment. Everyone is entitled to frequent whatever location they choose. As for me and my house, we will elect another venue. BTW, I am certain that everyone who was in attendance would be welcome in most local churches; no cover charge.

What a sad and unnecessary tragedy. Brother dead. Brother in jail charged with the death. No doubt, a mother grieving, siblings distraught and devastated, a neighborhood in turmoil. My sympathy and heart go out to all of the real victims of this tragedy. There will be plenty of time to judge and analyze when all the facts come to light through the legal systems. This is not a time for baseless conjecture. It is a time for mourning for so many. Family, friends, neighbors, police, EMT personnel (who have to face these tragedies daily). What a sad day. My thoughts are what if.

Too late for this young man. What will YOU do today to prevent future tragedies such as this?

I think that the real issue is decorum. Wilson apologized to the White House but the real apology was owed to the Congress. It was the dignity of that body that was injured. Had Wilson made his comment anywhere else, it would be fair game. The problem is that he is member of the United States House of Representatives and when a President of the United States addresses that body, certain courtesies are expected by tradition and common courtesy. After the speech, he is entitled to express any opinion which he chooses. A joint session of Congress is a not a meeting of the House of Commons. The issue is one of boorish behavior, not the content of the comment.

What we really need is a viable 3rd political party that is truly conservative. The Republican party at one time stood for conservative positions and the Democratic party was an advocate for the liberal position. Both positions have merit. Now, if you honestly examine both parties you might well conclude that they are both branches of the Big Government Party. All of them are bought and paid for. Consevative citizens elected a Republican president and controlled both houses and abortion continued without any attempt to end it. Now, we have elected a Democratic president and Democrats control both houses of Congress and the wars go on and the promise to shut down Guantanamo is renigned upon. One size seems to fit none.

The point is Democrat or Republican, once politicians reach a certain level it seems they forget where they came from and who put them in office. I really believe that at some point, all of these politicians meant well and started off to serve the people but along the way, money, pride, and fawning political hacks have caused them to think that they have attained the status of gods. I don't believe in term limits because there is the potential to loose some good public servants, but I am beginning to think that term limits may be part of the answer.

Its all part of the give and take of negotiating and doing business. He had 4 others to deal with. Is Mr. Miller afraid to take on a man?
