I don't agree. I think it's been long overdue to legalize. ;-)

Thumbs up anyway since you're correct, I was just saying, that we should stop debating about this topic and just get it passed anyway.

that post really made me laugh. Steve Pool is awesome. I could imagine them playing basketball. In fact, that'd be pretty entertaining to watch. I'd pay $100 for the Komo team to play a game.

Burp, I don't know what *you've* been smoking, but chances are it's much, *much* stronger than marijuana!

Thank you blackcar.

Some people think that if it becomes legal, everyone will be high all the time. If you're going to consume a substance, make sure you have a designated driver if you're going out, or just stay home.

Yeah. Try smoking salvia and then ask yourself why salvia is still legal in Washington and marijuana isn't. You'll wonder whether or not you died if you smoked salvia, whether or not you're in a different galaxy, or transformed into a different animal or object.

That's how backwards the laws are in the U.S. Something that completely hinders your ability to even move, talk, or even do basic motor skills at all (Salvia), is legal, and something that has little to no intoxicating effects (Marijuana) is illegal.

@StrongEvidence

First of all, I'd guess that you're around 50-60 years old. Marijuana is not called dope any more. Heroin is referred to as dope. Want to know why? One can still function and perform well at a job, do schoolwork, etc., when they're high on marijuana. When you're high on heroin you can't really do anything.

I'd give you fifty names of people who go to college and have jobs that are about to graduate with four-year degrees that smoke marijuana, but I respect their privacy so I will not give you their names. I can only give you my word. You have been brainwashed by "Reefer Madness" and political propaganda. Marijuana was first banned federally because of racist reasons. Look it up.

Do more research, and in fact, you'll probably find that some people that you work with smoke pot. I'll bet you $1,000. They won't tell you that they do, but you'd never know if they did or not.

I've had college professors that smoke pot. I've worked alongside people in various fields of jobs that smoke pot. They've all taught me a lesson. Marijuana is not harmful. Our own president has smoked pot. What does that tell you? The leader of the free world once "inhaled frequently". He has the highest job position on planet Earth. He may not be paid the most, but marijuana didn't prevent him from becoming an Illinois senator and then to become President of the U.S.

Here's a way more intoxicating drug for you. LSD. Want to know who did LSD many times while working on an operating system? Steve Jobs.

Aldous Huxley, wrote a book called the Doors of Perception, which is very famous, and did LSD many many times during his lifetime. He even requested it on his deathbed, and got an intramuscular injection of it.

Ken Kesey, who wrote "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", did LSD.

George Carlin did mescaline, which is very similar to LSD.

Marijuana on the intoxication scale compared to LSD is a -1000 out of 10. Marijuana on the intoxication scale compared to alcohol is about a 1 out of 10. Marijuana on the intoxication scale compared to Xanax/Valium/Klonopin (all legal prescription drugs) is a -10. If people could become successful after use of one of the most powerful psychoactive substances in the world, then marijuana is nothing.

Let's compare a drug that is still legal, Salvia Divinorum, with LSD. They are about the same, Salvia having much shorter and much more intense effects than LSD. Compare salvia and marijuana and then get back to me.

People should have the right to put whatever they want into their own bodies. I'll tell you this though, the most intoxicating substances I've been on were pharmaceutical drugs. Big Pharma won't allow them to be outlawed though, they have too many lobbyists in D.C.

Would you rather have the gang-related violence and guns that comes with prohibition?

Would you also rather have the ability for anyone of any age, even children, to be able to get their hands on pot, that also comes with prohibition? Dealers won't card anyone, all they care about is getting money.

Would you also rather have the unregulated, non-inspected, unsafe problems that comes with drug prohibition? Most overdose deaths due to the unregulated drug trade are because the drugs themselves aren't tested for purity, or quality inspected, they're most likely adulterated with other chemicals, etc.

People will use marijuana, alcohol, or any other substance if they want to, regardless of its legality. Your argument is seriously flawed. It's someone's *own* fault if they decide to get into a car and drive after drinking/getting high, or beating their significant other or kids. There are plenty of responsible people who smoke pot. I could name twenty off the top of my head, but I respect their privacy. They all are enthusiastic about life, upbeat, they are kind and courteous, they think rationally, they are physically active, they're successful, etc. They're all adults with careers.

Marijuana anyway, would most likely not result in such a problem. I don't think I've seen anyone go ballistic and become violent on marijuana. They usually just want to sit on the couch and eat doritos and watch television...basically like most people in this country anyway, except that they are high. They're not going to take the gun from the cabinet or above the bookshelf and see if they can survive a shot to the head, they're not going to get in their car and try and run people over, they're not going to do anything you may have seen on "Reefer Madness". That is all propaganda.

Thank you for the voice of reason. It looks like you're the only one I'm going to be voting up in this comment thread.

No...just no. Your first sentence essentially suggests the following:

"Let's just pit all the gangs of Renton against each other in a battle to the death! That way it won't be like Mexico's drug cartel problem or anything, and then we can let them get rid of each other!"

Quick lesson: Here's how you get rid of gangs. Gangs operate based off of black markets, that usually involve drugs. Get rid of the black markets and the gangs go away. Haven't you read anything about alcohol prohibition and what it caused in the U.S.? Gangs sprung up everywhere. Al Capone? That name sound familiar? When alcohol was re-legalized all the gangs disappeared.
