And as someone growing up listening to 'it's your thing, do what you want to do', and taking it to heart, along with the messages preached from the Woodstock crowd, I have personlly experienced and can see in society the fruit produced by living the hedonistic lifestyle. Immorality and general exceptance of deviant behavior has grown and multiplied into the disappearance of most, if not all moral boundaries. And society suffers. It really started back in the 50's and 60's, maybe even with Jimmy Dean. (even though the arguement is, 'well, you know they didn't like Elvis either, and he was harmless'. But it digresses into what we have now. And if you dare speak out about the results of casual sex, life imitating 'art', profanity, etc, you are labeled a narrow minded censor.
I wrote to Michelle Obama right after the election and asked her toplease take up the issue of 'teen pregnancy, unwed mothers, and fatherless children,' as her 'platform'. These three societal ills are the main (or in the top 5) contributing factors for poverty, crime, violence, illiteracy, drug abuse, decreasing property values (in neighborhoods where property has devalued) that occur predominantly in the black community (though thanks to Hollywood and the music industry's glamorized immoral lifestyle, it is rapidly spreading to the white community). Haven't heard back from her. But it would be a huge help if she would actually speak out. The leading black women's magazine tried to mount a campaign against rap stars and the terrible influence their music and videos have in the black community, along with the students at Moorhouse, and Spelman Colleges, (thank God for some sanity) but it fizzled out.
Love it, but you better be careful. Did you hear about the guy in Oklahoma who had a sign on his car that said, 'abort Obama, not the unborn'', and the police confiscated his sign, (it was later returned when the Chief of Police heard about it...said officer overreacted. But...when the man got home, the Secret Service were in his house, walking through, and questioned him for 30 minutes. Story is at newsok.com , search anti-obama sign.
I read a comment where someone questioned, 'fairness doctrine for bumper stickers'? At least Obama's election, is waking people out of their lethargic sleep concerning the direction the leftist politicians and elite media, education leaders, powermongers, etc (don't you love the way they are calling themselves 'progressive', like in quickly progressing to a system of 3rd world politics, and poverty?) have been steering this counry toward for decades.
And the 'personal behavior promoted by 'stars', who are enjoying their right to express themselves without any regard for their performance and its impact on our youth and future leaders, (freedom fought for by men with wisdom and integrity) only leads to a breakdown of society. Increased poverty, lack of respect for the law and/or any authority, violence, gangs, (to make up for loss of a sense of family) lack of self control, no self-discipline, (which is required to succeed), drug abuse, sex whenever and with whoever you feel like it,, being a 'baby daddy' without any responsibility,.......all behaviors that are glorified by our 'entertainment' idols. I believe that Lenin and Krushchev were referring to citizens who could see through the imprisoning State lie.... 'the state knows best', and dared to express a different opinion.
A standard of decency does not negate individual creativity. Without standards of decency, entertainment falls to the lowest common denominator of human behavior, guided only by 'whatever sells and excites' the audience. If you will visit some of the juvenile detention facilities, the health clinics, the jails, you won't see young people who are have acted in an individual or creative way. They have only copied what they have been sold by MTV, BET, Hollywood, and the music industry. They look like and and act like carbon copies of the 'latest and greatest' trend.
Right after the election of Obama, PBS ran a Frontline story called 'The Hugo Chavez Show'. It was actually frightening, listening to the Venezuelans talk up Chavez, just like the voters did here in the US for Obama. It was really sad to see the ones who placed so much hope in Chavez, realize that once he controlled 51% of the voters, his true colors showed...and they were losing their freedoms. But the 51% don't care, as long as they don't have to provide the bare necessities for themselves. I guess we will see the 'productive and the brightest' ' from Venezuela immigrate here. Hopefully, they'll help vote the Democrats out. If we don't get them out of power in 2010, and 2012, we can all move to New Zealand. (If the US hasn't run out of money by then, and the angry taxpayer paid government workers and feeders don't start a civil war, God forbid.)
