Oprah started in the late 1980s, not back in the days of only 4 channels. And she stayed the #1 talk show in America until she ended her show in 2011.

No, the whites who watch Oprah tended to be working class whites who have nothing to feel guilty about. It's the upper class whites that suffer from white guilt but they were never Oprah's primary audience.

She had Obama on her show BEFORE he was candidate and she campaigned for him on her own time, not on her TV show so she had no obligation to put any other candidate on. Republicans put Palin on the ticket because they knew she could appeal to the Oprah watching hockey mom demographic and thus were desperate to get her on Oprah's show, but Oprah was far too smart to allow the charismatic Palin come on and charm all those viewers into voting republican. It might have cost Oprah a few fans, but there are somethings more important than fans and the future of the country is one of them. Had McCain won the election we'd probably be at war with Iran right now, so yeah, I think Oprah made the right call.

By 1.6 million people:

It's unheard of for a premium cable channel no one gets to score over a million viewers when it's only a year old. OWN is probably one of the fastest growing cable channels ever

The source that shows up in google first is not the same as the source as where the story originates. Fact-check thy self.

How did it hurt her? She went from being on TV 5 hours a week to having a network on 168 hours a week. And that network just scored its highest ratings ever a couple weeks ago.

Well when you're #1, you have nowhere to go but down. She's been #1 for 25 years and on top of that, television and especially print media are on the decline. Getting political never helps, but that's not the real story

She specifically said that because she endorsed Obama, she did not want any of the candidates to appear on her show because she couldn't be neutral. However republicans specifically picked sarah palin as VP candidate because they saw how influential Oprah was in getting women to favor Obama over Hillary, and they knew a charismatic adorable hockey mom like Palin could win back the Oprah vote. Oprah was smart enough to see what republicans were up to so she resisted the media campaign to force Palin on her show.

Very true. Oprah's next chapter on Sunday nights just gave OWN it's highest ratings EVER a couple weeks ago when she interviewed that preacher dude. And Rosie's new show on OWN is way better since she ditched the humor and studio audience for deep intimate philosophical interviews.

Why does every single news story about Oprah's supposedly declining sales/ratings always originate in one of rupert murdoch's media outlets (usually the NY Post); he's probably just trying to deflect attention from his own declining empire while trying to discredit a black woman who dares to disagree with him politically in an influential way. That's the problem with our news media. Everyone has a political agenda, no one cares about the truth. At least Oprah was open and honest about supporting Obama, she never pretended to be fair and balanced.
