As a African American I wonder the same myself. I don't doubt it's really high rate and it's sad. My guess, it started at home with the parents and thats if they had both around.

We gotta have car insurance to drive to the gas station down the street.

Arming yourself on a daily basis is no different then keeping a fire extinguisher on hand in your kitchen. You hope to never need it.

I agree with 338Lapua, be prepared to defend yourself.

And the comment on on should you form a militia is inappropriate.
You have the right to hire 24/7 body guards..should you?
You have the right to renounce your citizenship.. should you?

The mains point was to remember to take care of yourself foremost. We do it with car, short-term disability, home, flood, medical insurance all the time.

My survival knife is a little different then those posted. I like something good for chopping and brutally strong. I went for a KaBar Becker TacTool. This thing is very thick so it can be used to split wood or swing like an axe. It's only downside without the curve blade is that you can't skin things very well with it.

You saw the movie 2012. People were flying all the way to China. Those without large amounts of cash would have to hope the location is within a gas tank distance.

Displaying or having in plain view a firearm in Iowa on private property IS LEGAL. If they guy was there and show proof he own the place he would have been let go. It happens alot more than you think since some people clean their firearms outside because it's more ventilated.

Oh and proof it's legal in Iowa. Written next to the exception for allowing law enforcement to carry in Iowa.

Iowa Code 724.4 4.a
a. A person who goes armed with a dangerous weapon in the person's own dwelling or place of business, or on land owned or possessed by the person.

I have g_buddy a thumbs up. If the person was openly carrying a firearm on private property it's completely legal. It's defined next to the exception for law enforcement. Look it up.
