Gays in the military: it'll work. The military can make anything work, if directed to do so. Can the military accomodate Gays? Sure they can. But only at the cost of further eroding the effectiveness of our military.
The military exists solely to fight and win our wars and protect our country. It is not supposed to reflect society's mores, whims, and idiosyncracies. It absolutely must uphold standards conducive to unit cohesion, fighting and winning in battle. . . or, tacitly accept defeat by a superior foe. Many Americans simply fail to appreciate this fact, and have never seen what happens to a country whose military is incapable of defending itself (i.e. Kuwait, Bosnia, Iraq, etc. .. )
None of our past, current, nor future enemies worry about gender and sexual equality in their military units. Their primary goal is defeating the USA military in future battle. Admitting Gays openly into the US military is simply one more step toward helping them achieve their goal.
Someday, Americans may wake up in the morning to discover that their military is incapable of providing a capable deterence to foreign aggression.
