The world must have gone crazy, because I am sitting here anxiously waiting for Apple to release a new firmware so that I can unlock my 3GS. Something doesn't sound right.
Is there any concern that Apple will delay the release of 3.0.1 because of this announcement? By now, they must have realized that even fixing these holes only seems to protect newly purchased phones from the dev team (and also, I suppose, the phones of those too impatient to wait for the dev team's tools). They will release 3.0.1, and the dev team's tools will allow you to upgrade to 3.0.1 while keeping your jailbreak and your unlock, so what have they really gained (except, like I said, protecting newly purchased phones). It would seem to me, that with this being the case, Apple has the most to gain by delaying the release of 3.0.1 and thereby keeping its newest product from being jailbroken and unlocked by the general population.
Oh, and I didn't have a sim card installed in either phone when I did the update.
I'm not an expert at this whole process, but I just clicked "update" rather than "restore" on two different iPhone 2G's and they both seem to be working fine. Unlocked and Activated, just not jailbroken. Maybe "Update" does not require activation, while "Restore" does.
MuscleNerd, 0.9.5 works great on my T-Mobile in Chicago. Thanks so much.
Mine says 525033, and I can't make outgoing calls.
MuscleNerd, forgive my ignorance, but how do I tell if my sim card is newer than 39.xx? Is that something on the sim card itself, or something from the iPhone?
Is there specific instructions for unlocking the 3G iphone without updating the baseband, or will PwnageTool in simple mode know not to do this?
