Sesame Workshop has acknowledged the shift in age compatibility for SS. It is now aimed at 2 - 4 1/2 year olds. Keeping it relevant is difficult at that age as attention spans and interests are ever changing. I think kids are still part of the SS culture through books and videos, but I agree that future generations may lose interest. It seems in our day we continued watching past the official target age because the show was engaging to all ages. It's aimed now at a specific age, and kids like yours lose interest once they're over that age. That doesn't bode well for passing the show down from generation to generation.
